Empty Mountain Mission Statement

Empty Mountain Practice Center, a spiritual community rooted in the mindfulness tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, aspires to move in the direction of harmony & awareness in the spirit of togetherness, on the path of developing understanding & love.

Empty Mountain

A rustic, off-grid, slow-sprouting practice center rooted in the mindfulness tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

After a long land search adventure, Empty Mountain has found its home. As of July 2022, EM has taken root on 24-acres of lovely forested land in Mineral County near Superior, Montana. We’d like to humbly acknowledge that EM is nested on the CSKT and Coeur d’Alene tribal lands. And we hope to do our best to be good caretakers of the land entrusted to us.

EM is situated 60-miles west of Missoula, MT, with all but the last 5-miles traversed on I-90. We are what we would consider to be the ideal blend of both secluded & easily accessible. The gravel road we reside on is well-maintained and all vehicle types will have no prob reaching us.

As EM is currently an outdoors outfit, folks will need to have a bit of an adventurous spirit to join us, or at least have a certain level of okayness for things like: using a compost toilet outhouse, co-habitating with bugs & bears (black, not griz), not having cell service, and not having access to a shower or running water. But if this is up your alley, we sincerely hope you’ll plan to join us for a visit, event, or retreat stay!

Planned Branches of Empty Mountain

Plum Village tradition based practice opportunities, in the form of: days of mindfulness; organized retreats; classes; special events (ex: music, art, movement based offerings, potlucks).

Residential community. We anticipate that this branch will take us a little more time to grow into but we would like to offer a variety of options for folks to live on site with us, from seasonal to full-time living.

Mindful warrior. Programming focused on our own blending of mindfulness practices and the teachings associated with the ManKind Project (MKP).
