Guiding Tenets

Guiding Tenets of Empty Mountain

1. We aim to strengthen and develop creative ways with which to apply the practice of mindfulness actively and directly in our daily lives.

2. We are guided and supported by the Five Mindfulness Trainings and the Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings in the Plum Village tradition of practice, which serve as the foundational framework of our center and community.

3. We aim to be a safe space for folks wanting to live a sober life. As such, alcohol and drugs are prohibited on site. This includes marijuana use. However, as we understand that some folks use marijuana for medical purposes, and we want to try to support our friends in this regard, our experimental policy is as follows: we respectfully ask that you not share it, and that you keep it & use it away from others.

4. We are committed to cultivating opportunities to help support self-growth, skill-building, accountability, authenticity, awareness, understanding, self-care, and compassion.

5. We place great value in being open and welcoming to people of all genders, sexual orientations, race, and socio-economic backgrounds.

6. We consider spiritual practice as the foundational base for any and all forms of social action.

7. Our principle focus is centered around being sincere mindfulness practitioners in the world, and bringing our practice to life in body, speech and mind to the best of each of our own abilities.
