Empty Mountain Calendar of Events

Updated November 7, 2024:

Online Practice Group: Five Powers
Jan 12-Feb 16, 2025
Organized, hosted & led by Nicole Dunn, program director of Empty Mountain

In Buddhism five true powers are faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, and insight. The five powers are the foundation of real happiness. - Thich Nhat Hanh

This is a free online group to join & participate in; donations are appreciated. All are welcome.

How it will work: Each week on Sunday, new content will be added to a shared google doc including: a link to a short talk I will give on each of the Five Powers and an invitation to choose either a practice prompt or a reflection question to carry with you through the week. You will then be asked to share a few sentences with the group on the doc about how your week went the following Sunday. An email will be sent out every Sunday when new content has been added to the google doc.

A little bit more info: This is a low-key, low pressure sorta group. While ideally we ask that you sign up only if you can participate for the full series, if you opt out part-way through, we will miss you and we will also understand. While we will solely be interacting through a google doc (though there may be a zoom meet up at the end), we will still very much be a community of friends sharing time, energy, and intentional practice together. This online practice group, while organized & led by me, is a self-guided endeavor, with the benefit of having the presence of others to inspire, encourage, and support us.

Cost: Free, donations appreciated ($40 is suggested)

Starts on Sunday January 12

Ends on Sunday February 16

Minimum amount of folks needed for the class to take flight: 5 people

Please RSVP by Dec 20 to EmptyMountain406@gmail.com

A Couple of Kind Requests

About Dogs. Please bring a leash if you bring along your dog friend to EM. While we welcome free-roaming canines, our Guest Master at EM is a handsome cat named Larch, who may need some crowd control support, depending on the excitement level of your pup. Also: during social gatherings or program events there may be other dogs around as well. (FYI: Allowing dogs at community events is an EM experimental endeavor. We’re still in the trying-it-out phase. While we dearly love dogs, they can be challenging to enfold into the practice, the mix of other humans, other dogs and all of the enticing smells & critters of the forest.)

About Alcohol & Drugs. Here at EM, we aim to be a safe space for folks wanting to live a sober life, which includes ourselves (Mike & Nicole). As such, we respectfully ask that alcohol and drugs not be brought on site. This includes marijuana. However, as we understand that some folks use marijuana for medical purposes, and we want to try to support our friends in this regard, our experimental policy is as follows: we respectfully ask that you not share it, and that you keep it & use it away from others.
