Power of Intention

Full moon in June at EM

One of our newest upgrades here at EM is the shower house. It uses rain water we collect in a 55-gallon barrel off the roof, which is then heated by a 20-lb propane tank, and the water pump operates on a 12.8 volt Power Queen battery we charge with our solar panels. Also, there is a lock on the inside of the door, which we have zero need for.

If you’ve been following along with us in a regular fashion, you know that it’s just Mike & I out here living in the woods of Empty Mountain. We live pretty remotely, sans close-by neighbors, off-grid and without running water. Translation: we have absolutely no personal need for a lock on the inside of the shower house door. But, as our interest lies in building community, in the form of gathering folks together for events & retreats, with a hope of offering residential opportunities down the line, we installed a lock for when other people come to visit or stay a while, so they will feel more comfortable when grabbing a shower. This is an example of the power of intention.

We’re coming up on our two-year anniversary, since we bought and moved onto the land we now reside on. We signed the papers to secure the purchase on July 1, 2022 and then immediately drove right out here. There were no structures or services when we arrived. But while everything in the last two-years has been in service of getting Mike & Nicole set up to live here, nothing we’ve done has been for our own selves alone. Our intentions have been, and continue to be, geared towards community building. Everything we do is with other people in mind.

When choosing a spot in which to build the shower house, we asked ourselves: Where would it be convenient for us & others to access it? When considering what free building supplies to take from our generous friends & family: Will this come in handy for when we start building huts for folks to stay in and/or our multi-purpose community use space? And just recently, when deciding on the purchase of a small used couch for our cabin to replace our camp chair furniture, I went with a slightly larger situation than I was aiming for, because it had the benefit of turning into a sleeper couch for someone to crash on in a pinch.

I’m a firm believer that intentions matter. That putting sincere, heartfelt, and humble energy into an endeavor will lead to something happening. And even when we don’t really know what that something will be, I feel it’s bound to be something good. When we plant and tend well to positive seeds, regularly & on-goingly, good things are sure to follow. And even if nothing resulted in the ways we had hoped (though I think this is relatively unlikely), we will benefit from enjoying our self along the way.
