Progress On Our Cabin’s Interior
Whelp. We managed to get our stuff moved back into the cabin. Or more to the point, we now have interior floors & walls! We even have a little bit of ceiling.
Similar to how the cabin was transformed when Mike installed the exterior siding on the cabin this past spring, which covered over the house wrap we’d been staring at for well over a year, installing the floor boards over the underlayment of OSB and the wall boards over the batts of insulation inside the cabin was a total game changer in terms of the flavor & feel of our dwelling place. It looks and feels truly amazing.
We won’t have time to install the whole ceiling, or the flooring in our upstairs bed loft, before we head south for the winter, so those projects will have to wait until next spring. But gosh, we sure managed to get a whole lot done in the span of one-week. So we have nothing to complain about. There might be a little more we do on the interior this weekend, but by or on Monday we need to shift gears into readyness to roll out mode. We might even need a day just to clean up the mess we made outside over the past week!
Some of the things we need to do before we roll out for the winter months include: emptying the rain catchment barrels so they don’t freeze and crack the barrels over the winter; doing one last load of loo buckets into our compost pile as part of our humanure system (and then cleaning said buckets); taking down the metal framed walled tent we erected close to the cabin as a covered workshop space (and cleaning up & storing elsewhere everything inside of it); properly storing the vehicles we plan on leaving behind; taking down & storing our PV panels; and covering a few things scattered around with tarps. Preparing to be gone in a place that has winter with snow & freezing temps is just a whole thing. But since we don’t have running water, it means we don’t have any pipes that will freeze. Win!
After we arrive at Deer Park Monastery, I reckon I will craft one more blog post to wrap up this year’s EM season. Then we’ll take a hiatus for the winter and return back to posting in the spring. Thank you for tuning in and following along, dear friends. We so richly appreciate you.
